What Is an Interactive Installation?
An interactive installation, also called an interactive exhibit, is a physical piece that responds to touch, movement, voice or objects, using sensors, screens and software. Common types include touch screens, sensor floors, kinetic sculptures, immersive rooms, facade projection mapping, AR and interactive art for public spaces. A 2023 study at a UK zoo, published in the journal Zoo Biology, compared interactive interpretation with standard text and graphics. Nearly four times as many visitors stopped at the interactive version, and they stayed more than six times as long.
